LAMY AL-Star Review
If you are reading this, you probably just read my LAMY Safari review. If not, go check that out first since it covers most everything about this pen. There are not that many differences between the AL-Star and the Safari. The main one, though, is that the AL-Star is made of ALuminium (as the name suggests). Even so, there are a few subtle differences.
The AL-Star weighs slightly more than the Safari at 22 grams, versus 17. It's not quite noticeable, but there is a bit more heft. Along with the metal body comes a higher risk of scratches. I haven't had any, but I have only had this pen for around 2 weeks. The nibs are the same as well. One neat feature is the transparent grip. This allows you to see the feed, which is pretty neat!
As mentioned in the Safari review, I like to match my ink to the color of the pen. The closest I had to this sage green color was Sailor 162. It matches pretty well. There is not much to say about the writing experience, though, as it is almost identical to a Safari. I do think this green aluminium look is awesome, though. The AL-Star is a bit more expensive than the Safari, at $47 USD. I would say the ten dollar jump is worth it, but that's just me. Overall, I would recommend the AL-Star if you already have a few Safaris and want something slightly different. It is a nice change of pace! Thanks for reading, and stay sharp!
