Intro

Greetings! This is my first post on my new website. I have been working on getting everything setup and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy!

Kuru Toga KS

I have been a long-time fan of the Uni Kuru Toga line of pencils. I got Kuru Toga Roulette around 5 years ago now, and I have been using it consistently since. Recently, I picked up a few of the models I didn't have. Seen here is my full collection:

Left to Right: Alpha Gel Switch, Metal Grip, Roulette, Roulette, Rubber Grip, KS, Advance, Pipe Slide, Standard

I have had the Roulette, Advance, Pipe Slide, Standard, and Alpha Gel for a good while. The others are new.

I've been using the KS for two weeks now and I am a big fan. It is relatively new. I think it came out within the last 12 months, but I can't find anything conclusive online. Either way, it is a good addition to the lineup.

Features

The KS has the same great Kuru Toga mechanism. For those unfamiliar, the Kuru Toga mechanism consists of a ratcheting gearbox that rotates the lead pipe when the lead touches the paper. This causes the lead to stay sharp, since each time you lift the pencil the lead rotates, thus eliminating the possibility of a chiseled point. All Kuru Toga models have a little window through which you can see this mechanism working, seen here:

The lead sleeve is fixed, so it is not "pocket safe." It measures around 5.1 millimeters. The body is glossy plastic, and feels very solid. Additionally, the clip is plastic and sturdy. Don't bend it too far though, or it will break (obviously.)

The grip is rubber. Nothing special here. I'm happy with the eraser, as it is bigger than other models that use really small black erasers that wear out quickly.

Overall, this is a great budget mechanical pencil, and a solid addition to the Kuru Toga lineup. You can get it from a number of retailers for around $7 USD. Check it out on Amazon! I hope you enjoyed this review!
